How We Research
This page explains how Best Pet Supplies Guide researches and writes its guides, so you can decide how much weight to give our recommendations.
We research; we do not lab-test
We do not run a testing lab and we do not claim hands-on testing. When we write about a product, our information comes from sources we can point to:
- Manufacturer specifications, dimensions, materials, weight limits and care instructions.
- Official size charts and fitting guides published by manufacturers.
- Guidance from established animal-welfare and veterinary organizations, such as the AVMA, ASPCA, AKC and Cornell Feline Health Center.
- Safety information from public agencies where relevant, such as the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.
How we choose products for a guide
- Start with the need. Each guide targets a specific situation, for example a senior dog that needs joint support or a home with several cats.
- Define the criteria. We list the features that matter for that situation, such as size range, materials, washability, stability or ease of cleaning.
- Check the facts. We compare products against those criteria using published specifications, and we note limitations as well as strengths.
- Explain the trade-offs. We tell you who a product suits and who should look elsewhere.
What we do not do
- We do not invent test results, ratings, reviews, awards or testimonials.
- We do not quote or copy customer reviews from retailers.
- We do not give medical or veterinary advice.
- We do not let affiliate commissions decide which products we include.
Prices and availability
Prices, stock and shipping are set by retailers and change often, so we do not publish prices. Please check the current details on the retailer’s website before you buy.
Updates and corrections
We review guides when products, specifications or guidance change, and each article shows when it was last updated. If you find an error, please tell us at [email protected]. See also our Editorial Policy.
